In 21 Days your financial life can change?

Yes, you really do have the power to prosper in 21 days.

How?

Take the 21-day financial fast challenge. Fasting at its essence is about self-denial. And Lord knows there’s a need these days for people to deny their desires. For it’s these wanton desires that have caused financial pain for so many. The 21-day financial fast is for you if you are stressed about your finances or you’re having money problems in your relationship with your spouse, friends, or family. Or maybe you are already a good money manager, but you’re looking for ways to do better with the resources God has given you. Whatever your financial situation, I challenge you to spend the next twenty-one days fasting.

Are you ready?

This gallery will provide you with a snapshot of each day of the 21-day financial fast. Each day will take you on a journey to explore what's keeping you from having financial peace. After reading the gallery, please visit my Beliefnet community page to ask me questions about the fast and finances and I also encourage you to get a copy of the book "The Power to Prosper: 21 Days to Financial Freedom."

Day 1: Breaking Bonds

Start this day by putting yourself on a spending diet. You can’t shop for anything except necessities. You can’t use your credit card for 21 days. You should limit or eliminate the use of your debit card – just for the 21 days. You should use cash for purchases. This financial diet can help you break the bonds that are keeping you from achieving financial freedom. At times, you may want to quit. You may want to scream. You may even break the fast at some point during the twenty-one days. But no matter how many times you falter, make the commitment to get right back on track.

Day 2: Get Out of Your Own Way

Think of all the things you do or have done that have prevented you from being prosperous. Has coveting or desiring what others have resulted in your purchasing something you couldn’t afford? Many of us like to think we aren’t trying to keep up with the Joneses but we are.

Day 3: If You Want to Recieve You Have to Give

It’s so easy to refuse to help others when you feel they’ve been fiscally irresponsible. It’s tempting to pass judgment and think you’ve done better for yourself on your own. But don’t be so arrogant to think you got where you are by your own actions. Contrary to popular wisdom, you can’t pull yourself up by your own bootstraps. Whether you acknowledge it or not, you had help. There are responsibilities that come with being prosperous. You should give and give generously. Of course, you have to be careful about whom and how you help. You don’t want to give in a way that will enable someone to continue bad money habits. However, if you are in a position to help someone, then help.

Day 4: First Fruits

Often when you grow up poor or low-income, you worry so much about not having enough money that you may not give as much as you could or should to your church. You can tithe but to do so you have to build it into your budget so that it comes first.

Day 5: A Sense of Entitlement

It’s not completely your fault that every day you’re tempted to treat yourself to whatever you want, regardless of whether you have the money to pay for it. We are bombarded with advertising messages that encourage us to give in to our sense of entitlement. You need to be mindful of your internal dialogue about your desires. If you are not careful, the evil of entitlement will put you in financial jeopardy.

Day 6: Don't Worry, Be Happy

Are you always worried about money? If so, could the source of your financial stress be the fact that you aren’t content? A lack of contentment means you aren’t satisfied with what you have. Here’s a quick remedy for the lack of contentment. Clean your house. Clean every room. Take out everything and just stand there and look at it all. Then thank God for what you have, even if you want more.

Day 7: Get A GPS For Your Financial Life

A budget is your roadmap to financial freedom. Not having a budget is like taking a trip to an unfamiliar place without a map or GPS. You can’t keep living without a purpose for your money. No map, you get lost. It’s the same with your finances. No budget, you get lost.

Day 8: The Salvation of Saving

Saving can’t always protect you from every financial disaster, but it certainly can help you weather storms a bit better. No matter what you earn, resolve to set aside something, even if it’s just $5 per paycheck. There’s power in saving.

Day 9: Diversification Delivers

You’ve probably heard the expression don’t put all your eggs into one basket. When you diversify, all you’re really doing is hedging against an unknown future. Review your investments to determine if you are adequately diversified based on your tolerance for risk and your financial goals.

Day 10: Your Honey and Your Money

When you’re single, you have complete freedom to decide what to do with your finances. However, one of the blessings of being in a marriage is that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. When you’re married, it can’t be about yours and mine; it’s got to be about ours!

Day 11: Children Learn What They Live

There is something important that you can pass on to your children and your children’s children — a legacy of good money sense. Your children probably won’t find a path to prosperity unless you show them. If you want to raise a money-smart kid, you have to live the life you want them to emulate.

Day 12: That Devilish Debt

You can’t get rid of your debt until you understand how having it and keeping it around like a pet can destroy your peace and happiness. When you are in debt, you are in bondage. When you are released from debt you are no longer beholden to someone else. Do what you can to get out of debt as quickly as possible.

Day 13: Credit Crush

There are times when credit is useful. However, more often than not, all credit does is allow you to live beyond your means. The availability of credit has put so many people under a crushing amount of debt. The fact is some people are living the American Dream — on credit. But that dream can quickly turn into a nightmare when the accumulated debt gets out of control.

Day 14: Borrowing Blues

Cosigning is the worst form of debt. Typically, when you co-sign for someone you’re pledging to be 100 percent responsible for a debt for an asset that you have no control over. You can’t achieve prosperity by making decisions that jeopardize your household wealth, which is what can happen when you cosign. When you cosign, you’re being asked to take a risk that the lender didn’t want to take. If the person was a good risk, then the lender wouldn’t need a commitment from a backup borrower – you!

Day 15: Greedily Ever After

Take an inventory of what you own so that you can guard against wanting more. We already have so much, yet we want so much more. Some people have so much stuff that they pay rent every month for self storage space so that their stuff can have its own place to live!

Day 16: Don't Play Banker to Your Baby

There is too much financial intimacy in the way people date today. While dating you should be sharing your views and values on money, not co-signing or lending each other money.

Day 17: May Peace Be With You

Financial peace is priceless. You can’t buy the joy that comes with running your financial life in a way that keeps trouble at bay. You can’t purchase the peace that comes with trusting, that even when you are hit with a financial struggle, God will see you through.

Day 18: Better Than Blessed Day

Perhaps the bond you needed to break was fear. You know you have an embarrassment of riches, and yet you still worry and fret over your finances. Accept and appreciate God’s favor without the fear of not having enough.

Day 19: To Whom Much Is Given

Good stewardship is a lifelong job. Remember, a good steward or manager will often be given more to take care of. But if you can’t be trusted with what you have already, why should God give you more?

Day 20: Love Is Priceless

So often we busy ourselves with shopping for our friends and family that we don’t enough spend time with them telling them how much we love them. The presents become more important than our presence. We try to use the presents to express the love that only our words and actions can convey.

Day 21: Financial Peace

Learn to live with less so that you can bless others and so that you can live your life more abundantly. Wherever you fall on the financial spectrum — compulsive spender or good steward — you’ll be surprised at how much more you can have when you follow God’s blueprint for making, keeping, and giving away money.
